The weekend update
How many new things did you intentionally try this past weekend?
On Friday, July 14, 2023, I woke up at 5 am and got ready for a 6 am workout class. It's the same group fitness class I wrote about on Day 45. It was "Dan The Man's" Birthday so it was another guys vs. gals competition. The workout consisted of Rowing, Running, Benching, TRX Mountain Climbers, EZ Bar Bicep Curls, Cross DB Bicep Curls, Kettlebell Split Hand Offs, Runner Sit Ups, Goblet Squats, Snatches, and Med Ball Slams. Then you had to go outside and run around the complex twice.
My new thing on Friday was leaning up against the building and puking at a group fitness class. :)
It brought me back to summer strength and conditioning before my junior year in high school. I was a 190-pound lineman squatting 355 plus pounds and sprinting after the wide receivers and defensive backs. I kept up pretty well but 75% of training sessions ended with me calling dinosaurs.
Saturday was a lovely day filled with 3 new things. First, I had a coffee meeting with someone I've known for 23 (Lebron) years. (The Lakers announced Saturday that Lebron was switching his number back to 23). I was very grateful for the opportunity to sit down with this person and regret not doing so prior. I really enjoyed connecting with this person and the dialogue we shared. This person damn near made me cry at Lakefront Music Fest when they texted me: "I respect you and appreciate you so much. You don't judge, you are accountable, vulnerable, and willing to listen, empathize, and keep an open mind." As a leader, I understand the difference between soft talk and solid talk AND I will say this... What that person texted me I TRY so fucking hard. Actually, I don't TRY... I am COMMITTED "AND" I don't always show up as the best version of myself. I'm human and I'm getting better every day because of The Buffet.
After my lovely coffee meeting, I drove 30 minutes back to the crib and picked up Bree and my oldest son. Since the air quality was so bad the three of us went to the Mall of America. (Thank you to Michelle for picking up and taking my youngest to the cabin- my youngest hates loud environments). He would have absolutely hated Lakefront Music Fest even though he likes music. Bree and I hadn't eaten anything all day so we went to Buffalo Wild Wings at the Mall. I tried the two new sauces General Tso and Sweet Chile Lime. We walked in right after Steph Curry hit a hole-in-one at the American Century celebrity golf tournament.
Right when we sat down they were interviewing Charles Barkley (What up DJ Bonics), Larry The Cable Guy, and Colin Jost. That's why I named this "Weekend Update" because of the skit Colin and Michael Che do on SNL.
