Day 45: TeamWerk
Have you ever done a group workout at 6 am before? I wanted to break outside my consciousness and regular thought patterns on things to try so I reached out to Amy Strand Miller. She mentioned Mark’s class at Infit. I felt some resistance to reaching out to Amy and Mark to ask if I could join. That’s how I knew I had to say yes.
I had the house to myself Thursday night so I thought it would be no problem getting to bed early. Boy was I wrong! I’m doing 75 Hard for the second time. So I had to read my 10 pages and go for a 45-minute walk. I also wanted to practice on the guitar because I just had a lesson earlier in the day. I think my head finally hit the pillow at 11 pm and I fell asleep to Francesca Sipma’s HypnoBreathwork session. My alarm at 5 am came way too soon. I really wanted to shut my alarm off and go back to bed but I’m so glad I didn’t.
Today’s class was the 1st Annual Guys versus Gals. It seems like Mark consistently has 4 guys and 4 gals so I was the 5th guy and the unknown variable. It was the first team to complete 10,000 meters of rowing and their Excel spreadsheet of exercises in which each cell on the spreadsheet was 10 reps. So when you did 10 reps of an exercise you got to cross out one cell of the spreadsheet. Some of the exercises were to get into a lunge and row 5 per side and that was one cell (box) and get into a lounge with a med ball and twist to each side. Then there were TRX push-ups and dumbbell reverse flys. There were also med ball figure 8 crunches, and penguin crunches with a V-up. Then we also grabbed a pair of dumbbells and did a squat to a curl and a squat into a press which was one rep. The last exercise was a similar compound movement but it was a squat with a tricep extension.
I was not very much help. I haven’t rowed in probably 2 or 3 years. It was a much different intensity level than I’m used to and it felt good and it’s what I need if I am going to level up. It brought me back to those days of summer weight room training for football. I remember squatting 405 pounds and up and then doing sprints trying to keep up with the wide receivers and defensive backs. I puked almost every single today. I felt that same sensation today. I went through the line at Caribou Coffee at 7 o’clock. The 7 o'clock hour I was feeling rough. I had just ordered an espresso shaker with an extra shot. She said it would be $8 and I’m sitting there in line not feeling the greatest wondering if I can even drink it. After taking 5 mg of THC and a shower I was back in the game and had a lovely Friday.
