Day 6: Don Your Hat, DERBY
Today is Day 6 of #mybuffetyear. If you’ve been to a Kentucky Derby party, chances are you’ve seen the big hats and had a Mint Julep, but have you ever met Chad and Brad? Today I went and checked out the 6th Annual Kentucky Derby Twin Cities Party at The Westin Edina Galleria. I met some great people, listened to live music, had a Mint Julep, and even downloaded the Draft Kings Horse app. Another app I just had to tap.
This year is the 149th running of the Kentucky Derby. Most years I try to tune in to the final race, but I have never been to a Kentucky Derby party and dressed up for the event. I came across the 6th Annual Kentucky Derby Twin Cities Party 3 days before the actual event and bought tickets the day before so I didn’t have much time to land an outfit. So after a great hot yoga session on Saturday morning, I ran some errands and made a last minute #targetrun. I bought the last bow tie, which means I had to completely revamp the outfit I was going to wear. I also bought a new button down, pants, shoes, and hat for a grand total of $127.97. I had visions of walking down the red carpet and someone asking what are you wearing and saying Goodfellow & Co. Just kidding.
The party was from 2 pm to 8 pm at The Westin in Edina. Brandon and I only stayed until 3:30 pm because we were going to a surprise birthday dinner that got ruined by the hostess. We had some great appetizers and dinner at Doolittles Woodfire Grill in Golden Valley. We ended up watching the final race from a barstool and seeing Mage become victorious at the 149th Kentucky Derby. I placed a $10 bet on Jace’s Road (32-1). I love betting on the underdog especially after last years Kentucky Derby where Rich Strike had a come from behind victory at 80-1 odds
I hope everyone had a great Derby Day. If you have nothing going on next year I recommend you check out a Kentucky Derby Party. Since next year will be the 150th I might have to make the trip to Churchill Downs. Thank you for reading. Have a buffet day!
