Day 5: Comic cartoonist
Today is Day 5 of #mybuffetyear and the 2nd day of my #bobross writing. (Refer to my Day 4 post if you are confused) My intentions are to become a better wordsmith every single day and paint you a picture with my words. Do you have fond memories of art in elementary school? For some reason I don’t; however, I’m fascinated by how talented some people are with their art. Since today is Cinco de Mayo and National Cartoonist Day I decided my new thing would be to draw a cartoon character.
So I went on Youtube and searched “How To Draw A Cartoon”. I came across Christopher Hart’s Youtube Channel and spent about 10 minutes drawing a relatively simple young boy. I struggled a little bit but it actually turned out okay. I feel like the eyes and the mouth need improvement. I wonder if this is a common thing among artists. Are all artists critical of their work? I also realize I only spend 10 minutes on it not an hour. Perhaps if I would have done a few takes I would have come out with a “masterpiece”.
I’m going to keep it short tonight. I’m having a hard time writing. Either I don’t know what to say or I don’t have the words to convey it. I will say I was pleasantly surprised when my oldest son got home and complimented my work. Over the last couple of years, I have been more mindful of doing art projects with my kids. I’ve drawn Santa, a leprechaun, and Valentine’s Day tacos. It is nice to watch Youtube and do a directed drawing. It is nice to flex that creative and artistic muscle that doesn’t get used a whole heck of a lot.
