Day 39:  30 Minutes of Bliss

I had my very first guitar lesson with Sheridan at the Rogers School of Music.  I feel like this should make up for not doing traditionally “new” things on days 36-38 (even though I did a lot that was new to me but not “fun” new), especially since I have had my guitar for 5 years and it has just sat in the corner.  A 30 minute guitar lesson goes by so fast, but it was a much needed break from the monotony of the week.

My instructor Sheridan had me pluck the 6 strings various ways to start to learn the muscle memory for stringing the guitar.  He also had me play my first chord.  I definitely must of been in flow state because the time went by super fast.  I really enjoyed it. I’ve pretty much been practicing every day since that lesson for at least 10-15 minutes per day except for all but one day.

I saw George Thorogood a couple years ago at the Minnesota State Fair.  Night Ranger opened for him.  He is 73 now, but when I saw him he was 71 and still rocking.  In 33 years I will be 71, which 33 years will probably go really fast considering I am 38 and all these years have gone really fast.

They say you become a master with 10,000 hours or 10 years whichever happens first.  So I could be a master by the time I’m 48, which is still pretty damn young compared to 71 and I think 71 is still pretty damn young as long as you are taking care of your body and doing all the things.  There is a yoga teacher who guides at the studio I go to who is 70 and she is way more physically fit than I am at the moment.
