Day 40: Mason’s 7th Birthday

Friday birthdays are the coolest!

This was another a wonderful day but yet it was more of the same fucking thing with the pool.  I wrote 5 post-it notes for Mason to find that said "Happy Birthday Mason" on it.  I put one right next to an outlet on the main level because I knew he would grab his tablet and charge it while he was enjoying its use. He didn't realize there were 4 other notes scattered on the main level.  I put one on the remote which was on the kitchen table, one on the window, one on the pantry door and one on the beverage refrigerator that stores all the Prime (thanks Logan Paul).

Then I took out the ole John Deere and cut the grass and then picked up Rockwoods for his birthday lunch.  He likes the mini corn dogs up there and my oldest had wings.  Since I'm about this Buffet Year commitment of pushing myself to get out of a rut, I ordered something new (Smokehouse Mac N Cheese w/ Birria Pulled Pork). It was really good, but I didn't love it.  My mother-in-law (Michelle) had the better pick (BBQ Chuckwagon) which is house-smoked turkey, salami, bologna, American and Swiss cheese, cripsy onions, bourbon bacon BBQ sauce on a poppy seed pub bun.  It was really good.  I would definitely order that again.

Then the birthday boy had his buds over from 3 pm to 6 pm.  Then Friday night we were hanging out on the deck.  I was showing off the minimal skills I had learned at guitar lessons and Brooks asked to try.  So that was a lot of fun.

When I went to go pick up lunch today Bree, Michelle, and the boys went to a garage sale and the boys saw a kids guitar.  They wanted to buy it because they said dad is taking guitar lessons.  I thought that was special and it made me feel good.  It made me feel like I inspired my kids.  As parents, don't we want to do more of that?  I think it is important.

Obviously, our schedules are so consumed by our kids and the activities they have going on, but we have to continue to live our life because they are watching us and we need to inspire them.  We might have them signed up for soccer or baseball, but if they don't see us being active and taking care of our body why would they be inspired to do the things we have them signed up for. My boys are such sponges for what I’m doing - they embody Buffet Year just by seeing me stretch myself. What a cool ripple effect!
