Days 34 to 38: When Shit Hits the Fan, Dig deeper

I got myself into this shit show of a mess being 8 days behind on blogging.

Day 34/35 Saturday was really good.  My family members Dany and Brandon came over and we went into the pool.  Then Brandon and I took off for downtown Anoka.  We swung into White Buffalo Spiritual Healing for a tarot reading.  My psychic and tarot reader was about 20 minutes away so we decided to swing over to Sticky Cheeks Cake which was right next door.  I’m so glad we did.  Everything in the case looked delicious.  We ended up getting a Halo, which I didn’t know that was a thing and I still don’t know if it is a specific thing to this bakery or if you can find them other place. This Halo I’m referring to is basically a donut cut in half, with cheesecake whip cream, and this particular halo had banana and frosted flakes.  It was so tasty.  I gave Brandon the bigger portion.  I loved it and I think he did too.  We got to Sticky Cheeks late in the afternoon around 3 pm.  At that time, they had two other Halo options that also looked delicious.  One had Strawberries and one had Fruity Pebbles.  They all looked yummy.  We also were very fortunate and grateful to try to their Peanut Butter & Pickle White Cupcake.  The frosting was like a white frosting with a hint of peanut butter.  It wasn’t over powering and it had a couple diced pickle chunks, but the cool thing was it had a syringe filled with pickle juice on top.  My intention was to drizzle that on top but I squeezed too hard and it came squirting out.  The cupcake and the pairing of peanut butter and pickle was better than I thought.  It wasn’t gross.  I really liked it.  However, if I only had enough money for a Halo or the Peanut Butter Pickle Cupcake I would choose the Halo.  However, if you are someone who likes peanut butter and pickles together I could see why you would choose the cupcake.

My reader showed up soon after we taste tested our treats.  We went back into her office. I have to say I was nervous to experience a psychic tarot reading. But as with much of what I do as part of Buffet Year, I learned so much by doing it scared. Do it anyway should be a motto of this wonderful commitment to stretch and grow myself.

She broke out the cards and shuffled them up.  She said each card is a snapshot of my energy.  After she pulled the first card she said, “You are currently at a point in your life where things are going relatively well.  Although there has been some recent emotional loss it seems like with this card coming out but you are at a point where you are relatively balanced between growth and there are no issues with maintaining yourself.”  “She said I’m good at multi-tasking and juggling several things at once.”

Day 36-37-38

I got 99 problems & my pool is one!

Sunday night I had to get on my continuing education credits for real estate.  Most years I have been pretty good and usually wrap it up during the winter months.  Every year REALTORS and/or real estate agents have to do 15 hours/credits of CE.  Most brokers want that done between June 1-15 so there is enough time to submit the transcript to the state by June 30th.  I started my CE on Monday night.  I burned the midnight oil Monday through Wednesday and finished all 15 hours.  It felt so good sending my CE transcript over to my broker and getting that out of the way.  The roof was also replaced on Monday and Custom Pools came out on Monday to look at the pool.  The pump kept losing prime.  Of course the pool was working just fine when they came out on Monday, but come Tuesday the pump had lost prime again.  I was nervous and worried because it was going to be a hot week and I didn’t want the pool to get nasty and on top of that my youngest son was having friends over on Friday to go into the pool for his actual birthday and then a family pool party on Sunday.  Thankfully Uncle Mike came over to check out some things.  He noticed the nut on the filter tank was stripped.  I went to a couple of different pool stores and tracked down the nut.  I had to buy the whole set of pieces to tighten the O-ring (2 washers, spring lock, and nut) which was $56.  The new nut helped to get the O-ring tighter so the pump would actually prime faster; however, the pump would still not stay primed for more than 24 hours.

I have to say the entire experience of being a pool owner has been an act of living in the uncomfortable. I’ve said it before but I typically do not associate myself as a handy person or tool guy, but collectively I spent 10+ hours attempting to self correct the broken pool pump this week and my frustration, irritation and concern about the scarcity of time all were present during this week of pool problems. And while I was ultimately, “unsuccessful” in permanently solving the pump problem, the beauty is there were so many lessons even in the “failure” of the pool problem. I learned so much about how our pool system works and about what it looks like to dig deep to troubleshoot a problem that I hated to solve. I guess it took a bit of grit, I’d say.

Days 36-38 was a lot.

There are reasons/excuses but also some very valid conditions.  With everything going on last week I just didn’t have a lot of bandwidth to handle much more.  Between modules for Powerful Leader Mastery, 15 hours of CE credits, trips to the pool store and working on the pool and all the other shit I legitimately think I was at my capacity or edge. And perhaps even in sitting on that edge, I learned a lot about myself and my capacity to deal with hard things.
