Day 26: Floaters

Today is Day 26 of #mybuffetyear.  Robertson Davies says “Adventures are what makes a summer.”  There is a podcast called Happier with Gretchen Rubin and she talks about the concept of “Design our Summer”. Summer just slips by!  Cruises by!  How is it Memorial Day Weekend already?  The weather gets nice!  The days are longer because the sun is out but somehow the days go faster.  Gosh Minnesota is the best in the summertime.  I’m very excited to share my experience with Floaters Recreational Rentals in Big Lake.

I was doing the morning routine of blogging and having coffee and as I was writing the blog I thought to myself I have to mix it up today.  It is Bree’s birthday week and she has always wanted to go rent paddleboards.  So I called Floaters Recreational Rentals and left a message.  Stacy texted me back and was so awesome.  She went above and beyond and got us on the lake to enjoy a beautiful Friday.  I am so grateful.  Bree and I talked about paddle boarding a few times last summer and we never got around to it because we didn’t design our summer.  We weren’t intentional about fitting it into our schedule. We also talked about how as parents we really have to take advantage of the beautiful weather without our kids too.  I love our kids and I love hanging out with them AND it is so nice to just be for a bit and not hear the word “mom” 10 times an hour.

Yesterday I felt like Matthew Broderick in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.  I picked up a water protective case at Walmart and when I came out the sun was beaming down on me and it transported me back to St. Pete Beach.  It felt like I was on vacation.  I was so excited to hit the lake.  Then I got on the lake and it was just serene and blissful, especially the further away we got from the highway  I was out there soaking up the sun and just gliding across the water.  I was feeling so much joy, happiness, relief, tranquility, and relief.  It was so peaceful.  It was like the 1991 film What About Bob where he is sailing.  He keeps yelling “I’m sailing!”  That was me, except I was floating and not tied up.  That usually only happens at night.  Totally kidding, but I am always DTF - Down To Float.  10 out of 10 one of the best days I’ve had yet on my Buffet Year journey.  You should call off from work one day this summer and get on the water in Big Lake.  You can rent a paddle board or fishing kayak and eat at Willy’s on the Water.  Then you will be DTF too ya big freak.

Since going through Dr. Benjamin Hardy’s 10x is Easier than 2x mastermind I have been batching my days.  So Friday I have been saving for a little less work and more appointments, errands, and projects.  So for instance last Friday we had Northern One Hour out and the Friday before that it was Home Service Plus.  This Friday was supposed to be working on the deck because we are having my youngest son's birthday party on June 11th.  I had a visceral reaction to going out on the lake.  I was having thoughts like I really should do the deck.  I should pressure wash around the pool area.  I should spray the mulch beds.  I should cut the grass.  There was also laundry to do.  I have modules to complete before I talk to my coach on Wednesday.  I’m going to stop but I could keep going and I know you could keep listing things off too.  However, we need to take a break from the “to-do list” because there is always something.  There will always be something.  It’s easier said than done or easier to write than live but I want to start living that.

I was such a naughty boy, but if I’m wrong I don’t want to be right.  I love the rush of not having done something before.  The rush of a new experience.  It literally felt like a vacation.  All the anticipation leading up to it and I finally got to the lake and my eyes were filled with wonder. For an hour and 30 minutes, it was blissful and then after that, it felt like work because I was like Bob Seger against the wind. Hitting the sandy beach was so gratifying because it was like I did it and my endorphins were running high.  Chase that high and get on the lake with Floaters Recreational Rentals.  Buffet Year approved!
