Day 27: Whatever floats your boat
Today is Day 27 of #mybuffetyear. What do you usually do for Memorial Day weekend? Do you usually do the same thing every year? I know Buffet Year is about trying new things, but if there is a family cabin you go to every year that’s cool- that’s a tradition. Plus Buffet Year is about no judgments so I don’t care if your plans were to strip and go naked this weekend. I only say that because that is a drink up at Willy’s on the Water that has Tito’s, lemonade, and beer. I remember the first time I had that in college. It destroyed me! No strip and go naked for me today, but we are going back to Big Lake to eat at Willy’s on the Water (The old Russell’s) and to take fishing kayaks out with Floaters Recreational Rentals.
We hit Willy’s right when it opened. Thankfully we got there right away because the seating was packed on the deck. The deck has that plexiglass panel so you have an unobstructed view of the lake and it’s easier to watch your children. We ordered coconut shrimp, mini corn dog, Lil Willy burger, Korean Bowl, and Buffalo Chicken Wrap. My youngest son demolished the mini corn dogs. My son only ate half of the burger. He said he was full, but usually, if he loves something he will eat it all. Bree loved the Korean Bowl. The meat was delicious. It had so many ingredients in it. It looked legit. I thought the Buffalo Chicken Wrap was good, not great. I would give it an 8 out of 10. I would order it again another time, but next time I want to try something different and it might be something I like better.
Let’s skip to the good part. My oldest son heard how much fun we had yesterday renting paddle boards with Floaters Recreational Rentals. So Friday night he and his brother helped us stain the deck. He also helped us apply another coat Saturday morning before we took off to Big Lake. We had only planned to take the fishing kayaks out for an hour, but I have come to realize time goes by so fast on the water. It was a perfect day. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky. My son is in 3rd grade and he did great on his own fishing kayak. I don’t have my fishing license yet so I was just watching him and tooling around on a different kayak. It was super relaxing. I definitely want to do it again this summer. I might even take a book out there to read and just relax in the sun.
Brooks only caught some sun rays when we were out on the fishing kayaks. His hook got cleaned 3 or 4 times. Mason had the catch of the day off the dock at Willy’s. He caught a nice smallmouth bass. Bree and Mason rented a tandem bicycle from Floaters and they were whipping around the lake. They also found a snow cone stand that they both thought was delicious on a hot day. We stayed up there until 3 pm and came home to swim and have a fire. It was a perfect summer day!
