Day 25: Try it, you’ll like it

Today is Day 25 of #mybuffetyear.  Some days just don’t go as planned.  You’ve had those days, right?  I was really hoping to do something way outside my comfort zone today.  Something epic or maybe even scary.  Buffet Year is a commitment to changing your life so you can break free of your past self and step into who you are meant to be.  That is going to mean something different to every person that is brave enough to take on this human experiment.  To me, it’s also about breaking the identity of who you think you are and who you’ve been.  So I didn’t do something scary or uncomfortable today, but I did a couple of things that my past self wouldn’t have done.

I love going up to the school when I can and eating with both boys.  Actually, it usually involves stopping at McDonald’s, Culver’s, or Taco Bell and watching them eat.  My son has been wanting my wife and me to come up to his school lunch to try the orange chicken.  It is his favorite school lunch.  My wife was brave enough to go try it about a month ago. I wasn’t so brave.  However, I went up there and tried it today because it is #buffetyear and Buffet Year is about trying things before casting judgment.

The lunch consisted of orange chicken that wasn’t really orange (Doesn’t it usually have an orange glaze?)  and steamed rice.  I also had a side salad with red tomatoes and ranch dressing, broccoli, and pineapple.  The “orange” chicken was actually pretty good.  The chicken was nice and tender and went great with the steamed rice.  I wouldn’t say it’s craveable by any means but it seemed pretty good compared to the school lunches I remember with Mrs. Moe at Mississippi Elementary.  Life is busy and there is always something to do, but it’s important to me that I get up to the school to eat with my boys.  I love them so much!
