Day 2: Fancy a Float
Today was Day 2 of #mybuffetyear. I drove 33 miles south to Sanctuary Float Spa in Minnetonka. I went there to try a float therapy for the first time, which is a zero-gravity experience that allows the mind and body to completely let go, relax, and reset. It is a soundproof room filled with 12 inches of body-temperature water that is filled with 1,000 pounds of Epsom salt, which allows a person to float effortlessly and be completely weightless and devoid of all the external stimuli such as light and sound. However, there is meditation-type music playing if you so wish to turn the volume up.
I have never done anything like this before. I was expecting a regular-sized above-ground pool that you see in someone’s backyard during the summertime in Minnesota. Perhaps, in a dark industrial building of some sort with dimmed lighting. I was pleasantly surprised when I was brought to a small room big enough for a bench to undress and shower and then a private tub that was probably 10 feet long. I was also shocked to learn that it was a nude event so my suit would not be needed. I must have looked like a total rookie walking into the place. The swimsuit was a dead giveaway
I was instructed to take a quick shower. Their shampoo and conditioner smell lovely by the way. If you are allergic to soaps you might want to bring your own. After I showered up I was instructed to enter the tub very carefully and hang on to the handrail as the bottom is very slippery. I didn’t think the tub was that slippery but I definitely would use the handrail out of an abundance of caution. I will say when I was floating my skin was silky smooth and slippery like a dolphin. I was astonished by how easy and effortless it was to float and believe me I’m the type of person that has a semi-difficult time floating in a pool.
Once I was situated in the float spa, I could tell exactly where I hold all my tension. I would say for me it is in my lower and upper back and my calves. I could feel my lower back loosen up after a while. It was incredibly relaxing and I can understand why someone would do it on a regular basis. My appointment was done right as rush hour was starting on 494, which was very slow going and stopped until Rockford Road. I could have cared less. I was listening to the One You Feed Podcast and felt refreshed and recharged. Most other days I wouldn’t be so laissez-faire.
As someone with no strings attached to Sanctuary Float Spa if I were you I would definitely give it a try. Not only for the mental benefits but for the physical benefits as well. Their website claims that float therapy relieves stress/anxiety, soothes chronic pain, reduces inflammation, enhances sleep time and quality, boosts energy levels and focus, and improves circulation and blood pressure. Right now, they have a buy one get one free gift card promotion going until Mother’s Day. I’m not able to compare it to other float spas as this was my first experience, but the experience of float spa therapy I would give a 10 out of 10. I would definitely do it again.
Thanks for reading Buffy’s (Buffet Year Community). I hope you had a great day. Try something new tomorrow. You are doing a great job!
