Day 3: Taking care of back business

Today is Day 3 of #mybuffetyear.  Time to take care of some overdue business.

After my float spa experience the day prior, I could tell my body was long overdue for a chiropractic adjustment.  So today I decided to try a new chiropractor.  I went to see Dr. Dennis Stull at Otsego West Chiropractic.  It might not seem like a big thing, and I could understand that sentiment but I broke the habit of going to see Dr. John who I absolutely admire but he is 37 miles away one way.  The drive alone round trip is 1 hour and 20 minutes.  It just doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, but for the last few years I have been too fearful to try anybody else because Dr. John was my comfort zone.

I feel like it was meant to be.  He was referred to me by Amy Strand Miller who is by far the best massage therapist on the planet among many other things.  I called his office this morning and his administrative assistant said he had a cancellation at 10:15 am so I jumped on it.  It was a lovely 7 mile drive and a straight shot down Country Road 39.  He spent about 20-30 minutes with me and did some incredible adjustments.  I’m not the best yet when it come to identifying different muscles, but I feel like the first major adjustment he did was to the upper thoracic area and trapezius muscle.  I felt so much relief after he did that.  He continued adjusting my back and then had me lay on both sides and adjusted my hips.  Then the neck adjustment was just incredible.  It’s one of those times you say to yourself “why didn’t I do this sooner?”

I was reflecting after the appointment, I found myself asking which chiropractor gives a better adjustment.  I realized that isn’t a helpful question and ultimately leads me to comparison which kills joy.  I understand that as humans we have thoughts, opinions, and beliefs about an experience and that’s all well and good.  However, I say let your mind go there since it is going to go there naturally but why not appreciate the differences instead of comparing which leads us to labeling things as “good”, “bad” or “the way.”  Buffet Year is about dropping the labels and beliefs anyway.  It’s about developing an “I don’t know mind.”  If you don’t know what I’m talking about I highly recommend listening to The One You Feed Podcast called “How To Live Without A Script” with Martha Beck and Rowan Mangan that dropped on 04/25/2023.

I’m grateful to be able to afford chiropractic care.  It is such a wonderful blessing.  I’m grateful for #mybuffetyear adventure.  I can 100% say that without Buffet Year as my muse I wouldn’t have gone to a new chiropractor today.  Amy sent that referral over to me on February 9, 2023 and here we are almost 3 months later.  Thank you Amy, Dr. Dennis, and #mybuffetyear.  Thanks for reading Buffy’s.  Keep up the great work!
