DAy 14: Boba tea for two
Today was Day 14 of #mybuffetyear. It’s also Mother’s Day so we kept the experience really quick and easy. That way we could get back to celebrating Mom ASAP! Today my oldest son and I tried Boba Tea for the first time.
There are now 4 different spots you can get boba or bubble tea in Maple Grove. I really didn’t know anything about it before trying it. I didn’t even know it had gelatin-like pearls at the bottom of the cup. According to gobatea.com the balls or pearls which are called boba are tapioca balls derived from the cassava plant. The process includes cutting the cassava root into small pieces, then boiling it for 30 minutes until it becomes soft and the juice can be extracted. The juice of the cassava root is then used to make tapioca balls. Then the juice is extracted from the tapioca balls and it is sun-dried and packaged.
I ended up getting the brown sugar boba coffee milk and my oldest son chose the brown sugar boba milk tea. The taste was very good, but it was super annoying because the boba would get stuck in the straw. Come to find out bigger straws were an option. My wife just likes to watch me suck the chrome off a tailpipe or in this case the plastic off the straw. I really liked the texture of the tapioca balls. Take the tapioca out of the last sentence and the last two sentences are really freaking interesting. The brown sugar boba coffee milk had a smooth, silky taste. When the boba wouldn’t get stuck in the straw the beverage just slid down my throat like a slip-and-slide. I didn’t taste so much of the brown sugar, but it had a great coffee taste that wasn’t overpowering.
It was a lovely Mother’s Day morning. We let Mom sleep in while my youngest and I ran to get Mom her favorite donut and Starbucks beverage. Then we went and saw the baby chicks that just hatched in my sister-in-law's classroom and went to have Indian food at Tandoor (check out Day 9 of #mybuffetyear). My queen said it best on Mother’s Day of all days “Buffet Year brings out opportunities to try something new amongst the mundane.” Truth be told: Now we are always looking for something new to try and see the old world through a new lens.
