Day 12: On Friday, I Strike

Today is Day 12 of #mybuffetyear.  What day of the week is most reserved for you and your comfort zone?  When you think sweat pants, comfort food, and maybe some Netflix and chill what night comes to mind?  For me, it would be Friday night, but I could see how Friday night and Sunday night would be a close tie.  Back in my drinking days or should I say younger days, I almost always had at least one beer or vodka club soda and lime by 5:30 pm and most nights it was sooner.  Now here I am on a Friday night going to a 5 pm boxing class at STRIKE Fitness in Rogers.  To be fully transparent, I was supposed to go to a Lunch Box class from 12:30 pm to 1:00 pm.  So my Friday night would have been chill if that afternoon class wasn’t canceled.  Instead of watching the movie Rocky, I thought I was Rocky on Friday night.  I even fired up the soundtrack to the movie on the way to the class only to discover the only song I like on it is Eye of the Tiger by Survivor, which was released in 1982.

I got to STRIKE Fitness 15 minutes early so the instructor could show me a few techniques.  I used the restroom, grabbed some loner gloves and then the instructor Josh showed me some combos.  Then the bell rang and it was time to get to work  We did a five-minute warmup and then boxed 4 rounds.  I don’t know how long the rounds were but I was gassed at the end of round 2.  After that, we did 15 minutes of footwork.  It was a much-needed change of pace for me so I could slow down my breathing.  Then we boxed 3 more rounds before we did some core work.

My shoulders and arms were exhausted.  Even with power steering, turning the steering wheel in my truck felt like work.  Needless to say, I took an Ibuprofen when I got home to try to combat how I might feel later that night. Have you ever felt that feeling when your body is tired maybe even exhausted but you feel great because your body feels used?  That’s how I felt after the class.  I’ve never been to Farrell's eXtreme Bodyshaping (FXB) so I can’t speak to the comparison, but I would highly recommend checking out STRIKE Fitness.

The whole house was asleep by 9:30 pm on Friday night.  I muted the Lakers and Warriors game and stayed up until 11:30 pm.  Physically exhausted and alone with my thoughts.  My youngest was in my spot in my bed so I decided to take his bed.  I woke at 6 am and my whole side leg and hip hurt.  I was like shit here we go I’m probably going to feel like I got hit by a bus, but to my pleasant surprise, it was only because his bed is so damn uncomfortable.  I got up and climbed into my bed for a couple of hours and got a little more rest.  All and all I felt pretty good on Saturday, but I did take an Ibuprofen for good measure.  I have a 2-week trial so I am hoping to do it again this week.
