Day 10: Bitchin’ Cross Stitching

Today was Day 10 of #mybuffetyear.  Do you identify as an arts and crafts person?  Perhaps you are one of those people who dedicates a whole room or space to your crafting activities.  That would not be me.  I’m here for it, but I learned something about myself that I identified in my 9-year-old son a couple of years ago. My ego loves to only do things I'm good at it. But Buffet Year isn’t about that.

My new experience today was to learn how to cross stitch and more specifically to do a Mondo Llama cross stitch kit from Target.  It is not something I would typically do or have an interest in doing.  Buffet Year is not only about getting out of your comfort zone it is also about doing things that you previously would have cast judgment on and doing it anyways.  The activities are to be completed with one of three modalities that Eckhart Tolle discusses in his book called A New Earth.  Those modalities are acceptance, enjoyment, and enthusiasm.

I didn’t enjoy this activity, but I did a good job embracing and accepting the activity for the day.  The video of this activity was kind of funny albeit shitty quality because I haven’t picked up my new phone that is already paid for.  My current phone is lacking storage capability.  I was saying how I’m going to start a Twitch channel called Bitchin’ Cross Stitching with Yum.  You would have to refer to Day 9 to understand.  Then I said my cross stitching brings all the boys to the yard which is in reference to Kelis’ song Milkshake.  Then my wife goes you aren’t gonna want to do that  I was like what bring all the boys to the yard and then I realized I was messing up the cross stitch technique.  Then I attempted to reverse what I did and when I was pulling the needle out it when flying into our freshly laid mulch.  I quickly referenced the metaphor of trying to find a needle in a haystack.  I was literally finding a needle in a mulch bed.  I found it really quickly- I got super lucky.

My cross-stitch experience didn’t bring me joy, but it gave me a good laugh at myself and a finger prick.  Have a wonderful day!
