Day 31: HandyMan for a Day

Today is Day 31 of #mybuffetyear.  This is weird I’m writing this at 10:27 pm on Wednesday night.  My new experience for today was going to be going to Bonfire Wednesday at Rockwoods in Otsego for week 2 of 19 to see G.B. Leighton.  Never went to Pickle Park and never saw G.B. Leighton.  Couldn’t tell ya what kind of music he does or if it’s originals or covers.   I love live music though.  Nothing like it.

I did lots of new things today.  I tried the Polar Cold Brew at Edge.  I tried a new car wash, wiped down the inside of my wife’s car, and vacuumed.  I went to Minnesota Equipment for the first time and bought the John Deere Home Maintenance Kit for the 1st time.  However, what I ended up doing for the first time was fixing a pool issue.  The pool pump lost its prime and had to be dealt with so the water didn’t get all nasty.  It was a pain in the ass.  Isn’t it a pain in the ass anytime something isn’t working the way it should?

Are you a handy person?  I am not.  I hate that I label myself that, but I think it’s more true than not.  I haven’t exposed myself to enough handy experiences.  I had a realization that I did it to myself a long time ago.  It was in 6th grade.  In 6th grade, I had all A’s except for a B in Industrial Tech.  The hood on my tin truck was fucking crooked.  My gumball machine was a little bit better but not as good as some of the other kids.  It’s interesting though because the kids that were talented in that class generally didn’t seem to apply themselves in other classes.  I allowed that B to crush me.  It made me avoid all tech ed and small engine classes in high school.  However, it’s not like I had a 4.0 in high school.  I was just trying to keep my GPA as high as I could.  I started playing sports in high school.  I only played baseball in the summers.  So I had all the time I needed up until high school to do homework.  I used it all because I needed it.  I remember staying up until midnight in 7th and 8th grade.  I would finish my homework at about 10:30 pm. I was consistently staying up until 11 pm to finish watching Cheers.  Such a good show!  I’m surprised I’m not a bartender.

Anyways, back to the pool project.  Cleaning the filters, and getting the filter basket put back together was such a pain in the ass.  Getting the pump basket primed was even more of a pain in the ass.  I was so close to quitting.  I finally got the pump primed after 3 hours of working on the pool.   I hope that fucking thing works tomorrow.  I just want the problem to be solved.  I want to be able to tell the new owner at Custom Pools and Spa to shove it.  I feel a condensing tone from the new owner and you know what maybe people like me give him a reason to be condescending because we don’t know what the fuck we are doing.  You don’t have to exercise that right though.  I have been a pool owner for two years and this is all new to me.  I feel like I am always experiencing something new and worse yet I do something once for three months out of the year and I forget how to do it the following year.  It’s 10:52 pm and time to go to bed.  Good night!
